Indian Women's Team Makes History in 100th Test Match with Rare Feat

(Cricket News) The opening day of the one-off Test match between India and England proved to be a memorable one for Indian cricket, particularly women’s cricket, as the team entered the record books and became the second team to score more than 400 runs in a single day, joining England who had set the record back in 1935.

India’s total of 410/7 at stumps came from four brilliant half-centuries and three significant partnerships. Deepti Sharma (60) and Pooja Vastrakar (4) were undefeated at the end of the day’s play, and with a brilliant batting display, they also surpassed their previous highest total at home, surpassing the previous record of 400/9 against South Africa in 2014.

After Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia finished the day’s play at 261/4, with Kaur remaining unbeaten at 25 (41 balls) and 15 (18), respectively, Yastika produced some amazing drives to help India surpass the 300-run mark with four wickets lost at the end of 62 overs.

Yastika scored an incredible fifty in the last session, but Harmanpreet and Yastika’s quick wickets disrupted the English bowlers as they amassed over 90 runs between them. Nat Sciver-Brunt eventually ended Rana’s innings, but not before Harmanpreet and Yastika combined for over 90 runs.

The record for most runs in a single day by a women’s Test team was set by England in 1935 at Lancaster Park in Christchurch, where they scored 431 runs against New Zealand. At Tea, India were 226/4 in 46 overs with Jemimah Rodrigues and Shubha Satheesh unbeaten on 25(41) and 15(18) respectively.

Sophie Ecclestone provided the crucial breakthrough by dismissing Satheesh, who was on 69 (76 balls). At Lunch, India were 136/2 in 27 overs with Jemimah and Shubha unbeaten at the crease with scores of 37(63) and 55(57).
