ILT20 Season 2 Introduces Super-Sub and Wildcard

(Cricket News) The Super-Sub and Wildcard have been added to the DP World International League T20 for Season 2. The UAE’s largest T20 tournament will begin on Friday, January 19, with a match between the Sharjah Warriors and the defending champions Gulf Giants at the famous Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The two new features are expected to increase fan excitement as the six tournament franchises will need to strategize how to assemble their final tournament squads through the Wildcard and how to nominate players for both Super-Subs and playing elevens during the 34-match competition.

After the first over of the innings is over, each team may substitute one player at any point during the game. If the team so chooses, a Super-Sub can be introduced from the beginning of the second innings. Once a player is substituted, they are not allowed to play in the remaining innings of the match.

The Head Coach will designate the Super-Sub to the fourth umpire, and the on-field umpire will signal the scorers (wrists crossed above the head) to indicate that the Super-Sub is being introduced.

The bowling team may also use a Super-Sub at the fall of a wicket, but that Super-Sub will not be allowed to bowl the remaining balls in that over if the wicket has fallen mid-over.

The Super-Sub may be introduced after the start of the match, after the completion of an over, or in case of a batter, at the fall of the wicket or the batter retiring at any time during the over.

The original 22-player cap may be exceeded by any franchise by adding up to two players. This is an optional addition to the roster. If a franchise has already spent the maximum amount of money on salaries, it may spend up to 10% of that amount, or $250,000, on Wildcard players.

If the franchise still has money left over after paying all salaries, it may spend that remaining amount plus, if necessary, an additional amount of up to $250,000 while staying within the Wildcard player spend. Wildcard players are allowed to enter DP World ILT20 at any point throughout the season, however they cannot be replaced by other Wildcard players or substitute players.
