The International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring the ongoing violence situation in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is set to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year and the ongoing violence in Bangladesh has drawn the attention of the International Cricket Council (ICC) members and managers who are currently having their annual congregation in Colombo.
“We are closely monitoring the situation, but the event is still some time away. The situation appears to have improved over the last 24 hours,” an ICC source, currently in Colombo for the ongoing annual conference said.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will consist of a total of 10 teams, that will fight it out for the ultimate title over 18 days. 23 matches will be held at two venues in Bangladesh, the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet from October 3 to 20.
Over 150 people have been killed in Bangladesh over a court order related to ‘politicized admission quotas for coveted government jobs.’ The order compelled the students to take to the streets and protest. The Internet has been shut down in many parts of the country and foreign students are leaving the country. All these situations raised some concern amongst the ICC officials.
The fixture of the global event was unveiled by ICC at an event that took place in Dhaka. The event was attended by Nigar Sultana the captain of the host nation Bangladesh and also the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Australia the defending champions would be in a quest to retain their title, while they will receive some fierce competition from all the other sides.
