Heroic Harmanpreet Kaur becomes the first Indian to win the WBBL Player of the Tournament award

(Cricket news) After a difficult year in the international circuit, Harmanpreet Kaur is back to her best. Kaur has scored 399 runs in the WBBL group stage playing for Melbourne Renegades. She has an average of 66.50 and strike-rate of 135.25. The all-rounder has at least one more game to play and could top the campaign off with the winners trophy for her side.

India's T20 captain had been struggling for form in the past year or so but burst onto the scene in the WBBL this season. Her prowess with the willow has never been in question and it was only a matter of time before she started scoring but her bowling has come as a mild surprise 15 wickets in the campaign which is only 6 less than the highest wicket taker Jess Jonassen.

Talking about the award Kaur said "I'm extremely delighted, it's something very big that I have achieved. I'm very thankful to my team and all the support staff, they have been great during this time and have supported me a lot. It's been totally a team effort — I was just doing the job the team required from me,"

"We have a team that has gelled together. We support each other and that's what we have been doing. I haven't put any extra pressure on myself, I've just enjoyed being here and supporting my teammates," she added

India need Harmanpreet Kaur to stay in great touch for the New Zealand tour next year and the ODI World Cup after that. The one takeaway for Indian captain Mithali Raj from the WBBL should be to give Harmanpreet Kaur the ball more often than she has done.
