(Cricket news) Wanindu Hasaranga’s sensational spell of 4/15 led Sri Lanka to a series win over Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka secured a comfortable 9-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the series decider at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to seal the three-match series 2-1.
After opting to bowl Mathews inflicted some early blows for Sri Lanka dismissing Ervine cheaply followed by the wicket of Bennett who looked dangerous in his short stay (29 off 12) at the crease. The visitors were reduced to 52 for 3 by the sixth over after Theekshana dismissed Kamunhukamwe post his struggled stay in the middle.
Sean Williams attempted to steady the innings and even got a reprieve when he was put down by Hasaranga. Nonetheless, the spinner had his measure and dismissed the batter soon enough, opening the floodgates for a middle order collapse as Zimbabwe lost their last six wickets for only 11 runs in a space of 23 balls, with Hasaranga bagging four of those scalps, bundling out Zimbabwe for only 82 runs.
Chasing a small total Sri Lanka was on top of the game. It took them just 10.5 overs to register a clinical win in the series decider. Kusal Mendis after getting his eye in was dismissed by Sean Williams, however Nissanka and Dhanajaya de Silva ensured there were no further hiccups along the way, with the former slog sweeping Sikandar Raza for a six to help his side over the line with 55 balls to spare.
Brief Scores: Zimbabwe – 82 in 14.1 overs (Brian Bennett 29; Wanindu Hasaranga 4-15, Maheesh Theekshana 2-14) ,Sri Lanka – 88/1 in 10.5 overs (Pathum Nissanka 39*, Kusal Mendis 33)
