(Cricket News) The Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended from the upcoming two match test series against Bangladesh. Hasaranga retired from the longest format of the game last year, but came of his retirement to play the Bangladesh tests, however the International Cricket Council announced on Tuesday that the spinner has been handed a 2-match suspension.
Hasaranga has been barred from the games following his misbehavior during the 3rd ODI in the recently concluded series. He was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”
In the 37th over of the game, Hasaranga didn’t seem to be happy with a particular umpiring decision and ridiculed the umpiring in the match. He even snatched his cap from one of the umpires. He was fined 50% of his match fee and accumulated three demerits points for his offense.
His total demerit points went up to eight in a period of 24-month. He received five demerits points previously and received three of them during the third T20I against Afghanistan last month. He also got a two-match suspension for the same in the Bangladesh T20IS as well.
with the addition of the latest demerit points, he has breached the threshold of eight demerit points, which, pursuant to article 7.6 of the Code, have been converted into four suspension points. The four points of suspension are equal to a ban from 4 ODIs or T20is or 2 Tests, whichever comes first, hence he won’t feature in the upcoming tests.
