(Cricket news) India won the ODI series 3-0 against Sri Lanka. This was India's first ODI series since the disappointment of the World Cup and the retirement of legend Mithali Raj. Harmanpreet Kaur took charge of the ODI team for the first time since becoming full time captain. India were mighty impressive in all three games and proved to be too good for Sri Lanka. India is starting a new era and this has been a great start as youngsters are stepping up to the task while the seniors are seen taking more and more responsibility. The women in blue ticked almost all the boxes as there were a lot of good things to take away from the series.
Harmanpreet Kaur was named the Player of the Series for her outstanding overall performance. She has led the side from the front in her first series as full time captain. Harmanpreet scored 119 runs and took 2 wickets in 3 matches. Her presence in the middle order is a massive advantage for India and other players as well. Shafali Verma finished as the highest run scorer with 155 runs. She had a bit of a dry pitch before and during the world cup but since has recovered well. Renuka Thakur took Jhulan Goswami's place in the side and did it really well. Renuka was the highest wicket taker in the series with 7 scalps and she bowled some very good spells.
The management's decision of giving the gloves to Yastika Bhatia is proving to be a master stroke. She looks much better than Richa Ghosh behind the stumps and has already shown good hands. Ghosh can now be used as a pure batter and could be a candidate to make way for Sneh Rana once she comes back. India now has more bowling options than before which is incredible news and will now prepare for the T20Is at the Commonwealth Games which begin at the end of the month. After that they will have an important away series against England.
