At the Las Vegas GP, Haas will divide the vehicles between the old and new F1 kits

For the weekend in Las Vegas, the Haas Formula 1 team will run two different cars: Nico Hulkenberg will drive the older aero package, while Kevin Magnussen will drive the more recent one.

(Motorsports news) The choice is based only on the preferences of each driver and is not the consequence of an attempt at a consecutive data collection activity. Haas with the upgrade package, which was first shown in the US GP last month, the team decided to go in a different way. Since then, they have secured some strong midfield grid positions. But even after a race, the vehicles continue to have trouble with their tires, forcing the poor drivers to fall down the order.

Haas’s team manager Guenther Steiner explained the choice to run both versions, saying, “The main drive behind this was Nico feels that for him the old spec suits him better, and Kevin is the opposite.” Haas have two races left and nothing to lose, so we’ve chosen to give them what they want and have done our best. We could talk about collecting data, but we already have plenty; ultimately, each driver’s preferences will determine the course of action. It places drivers in a comfortable position to maximize their happiness with the car they have.”

According to Steiner, the primary problem in races is overheated tire surfaces from excessive skidding, and he emphasized that this issue needs to be resolved before 2024. “After the Brazilian GP, Haas was discovering what doesn’t work, but I think we need to fix it,” he said to Motorsport.com. “On the aircraft, we know what we need. But of course, we still have to make it. “I hope the wind tunnel is moving us in the right direction. And we’ll fix this, learn how to cool the rims, and all that stuff for next year.

“Right now, the temperature of the carcass isn’t a major problem; instead, the sliding and surface warming are the main issues. “You learn little by little, but to be honest, we can’t just keep learning—we have to produce some outcomes. Since the second automobile simply broke down, at least we’re taking action.” At Interlagos, the team’s third race since the upgrade package was unveiled, Steiner made it quite clear that the tyre problem was still very much present.

Nico Hulkenberg eventually finished in 12th place, besting only the cars that were a lap down from the restart, after repairs to the damage received in the startline accident were performed during the red flag period. “Nico had a lot of struggles,” Steiner remarked. All of it is management. It’s management, not racing. For the entire year, it is the pattern. Haas simply have large deg and can’t keep them alive, so it’s not just the rears; it’s all the tires. “However, notice the Mercedes. Why do some cars perform well while others do not? Although the Ferrari was also decent, the Aston was superior.
