Graham Hume surprised to be selected for Ireland Wolves tour of Bangladesh

As per a press release by Cricket Ireland, North West Warriors all-rounder Graham Hume in an interview said that the call from the selectors took him by surprise and he is determined to make the best out of this opportunity during the Ireland Wolves’ tour of Bangladesh commencing from Wednesday. The scheduled tour will begin from 17 February to March 19 as the Wolves will clash against Bangladesh A for a eight match multi-format series starting from 26 February. Born in South Africa, Hume represented Gauteng in first-class cricket. He was also a part of South Africa’s squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2010 in New Zealand along with being his team’s highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets. Speaking from home, the all-rounder talked about the moment he got the call from Andrew White, Chair Of Selectors: “It was a very exciting moment as I didn’t really expect to be going. It probably took a while to sink in. Also, knowing that I will be in the privileged position to travel at these strange times is something that I recognise.” “I feel my 2020 season went pretty well, even though it was such a shortened season. Mainly being T20 cricket was strange, as it was hard to find your rhythm, but I was lucky to start well and things sort of grew from there.” he added . The Wolves tour won’t be Hume’s first cricketing trip to Asia, he shared, “I was lucky enough to tour Bangladesh in 2011, so I have a fair idea of what to expect. I remember the wickets being quite slow and good for batting and it was also pretty hot and very humid.” “With regards to my game, I have an idea in my head about how I will want to go about it in those conditions. You always go into games with a plan, but in the end every cricket pitch is slightly different, so it’s about being able to adapt and workout the best way to go about things on the day.” “Having Stuart Barnes on-board will be great. I was lucky enough to have a few sessions with him before he went off to the UAE, and it will be a great help having him there in Bangladesh and being able to bounce ideas off him. Especially with him having worked out there and having a great understanding of the local conditions.” he concluded.
