Govt. Seeks Talks with AFA on Football

Reviving talks with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) over the adoption of Sports Anonymous Societies (SAD) is the goal of Casa Rosada. Before May, the government hopes to come to an agreement to amend the statutes.

They promise to keep in close contact with AFA President Claudio Tapia at Balcarce 50 and provide him four new principles to help reconcile differences. According to Nation leaders, “We have already made our move; now we are awaiting a response,” they told Tennessee.

The team lead by La Libertad Avanza deputy Juliana Santillan, who communicates with Santiago Caputo, the presidential advisor, is in charge of the negotiations on behalf of the Executive. Last November, a meeting between the consultant and former football player Kun Aguero was arranged by the legislator. Daniel Scioli, the secretary of tourism and sports, does not sit at the combined table.

Officials dispute Pablo Toviggino’s recent remarks against the SAD and insist that there have been communications with the man in charge of the Federal Football Council’s executive presidency. “We don’t understand why he writes that way on social media if we are having a good dialogue,” they said.

Toviggino chastised Sebastián Verón, the president, for declaring a deal with investor Foster Gillett that has not yet been signed or regulated. Throughout 2024, the American met with Scioli and Santillan.

“It would be convenient, even advisable, for you to clearly explain to the members of the club you preside over from Miami that the only thing you are doing is incurring a monstrous debt that you can only guarantee with the assets of Estudiantes Asociación Civil,” the president of the AFA said on X.

Conmebol’s Paraguay offices served as the site of the most recent public reconciliation between the government and AFA. Tapia celebrated the celebration with presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni and General Secretary of the Presidency Karina Milei, who posed for a group shot.

Along with remarks made by members of the Argentine national team opposing the government’s policies, the administration aims to prevent a FIFA consequence, such as disaffiliation. They rejected getting involved in the organization after the dispute over the president’s reelection because they think Messi backs Tapia and don’t want to face him.

The Central Bank president Santiago Bausilli’s examination into a potential triangulation of sponsor cash from donations has not advanced. “If we can come to an agreement, there’s no reason to go further,” a government official told TN.

By amending the Sports and Physical Activity Law (20.655) with the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 70/2023, Casa Rosada pushed for the establishment of Sports Anonymous Societies (SAD). The Argentine Football Association requested a precautionary measure, and the Federal Court of Mercedes issued one, stopping the measure.
