(Football News) The goals have been flying in over the first six matchdays of the 2023/24 LALIGA EA SPORTS season, as the games played so far have produced 2.93 goals each on average. Given that the goals per game figure for the 2022/23 campaign was 2.51, this represents a 17% increase in the number of times the ball is rippling the back of the net in Spain’s top division. If this rate continues over the course of the entire season, that would amount to a whopping 158 extra goals in total compared to last year.

It’s not only when measuring against last season that there has been a significant increase. The current campaign’s figure of 2.93 goals per game is the highest since 2016/17, when it was 2.94. Only these two seasons have broken the 2.90 mark, when considering all 35 editions of LALIGA EA SPORTS to have had the current format of 20 teams and 380 total fixtures.

In that 2016/17 campaign, when Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid won the Spanish championship, there were 1,118 goals in total, which is the record for Spanish top-flight seasons in the current format. Although 1,271 goals were scored in 1996/97, that was when the competition had 22 teams and 462 matches. Therefore, the 1,118 goals of 2016/17 is the Spanish record for a 380-game season, and the 20 current LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs are on pace to seriously challenge that feat, as the current rate of scoring would project a final tally of 1,113 goals by next May.

Spooling further back, we can find the other seasons in the current format that produced the most goals. The record is 2016/17 (1,118 total goals, 2.94 per game), followed by 2008/09 (1,101, 2.90) in second place, 2000/01 (1,095, 2.88) in third place, 2012/13 (1,091, 2.87) in fourth place and 2011/12 (1,050, 2.76) rounding out the top five.

Granada CF and Girona FC are providing the most entertainment

Of course, certain teams are involved in goal fests more often than others. Looking at the goals per game for each of the 20 LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs, Granada CF lead this ranking as their matches so far have conjured up 4.33 goals on average. Unfortunately for the LALIGA HYPERMOTION champions, they’re scoring just 1.50 of those goals while they’re conceding 2.83 per game on average.

Second in this ranking is Girona FC, a team that is doing most of the scoring themselves. The Catalan outfit’s games have 3.84 goals on average, with 2.67 goals of that in Girona FC’s favour and 1.17 against.

There are eight teams (Granada CF, Girona FC, FC Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Atlético de Madrid, UD Almería, Villarreal CF and Getafe CF) who are averaging over 3.00 goals per game that they’re involved in, while an incredible 17 different teams are averaging at least 2.50 goals per game. The goals are racking up in LALIGA EA SPORTS and breaking the record of 1,118 isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.
