(Football news) Borussia Monchengladbach beat 10-man Bayern Munich 3-2 to leave their opponents level on points with the likes of Dortmund and Union Berlin at the top of the Bundesliga table. Gladbach stretched their unbeaten run against the defending champions to a club record fifth straight game in all competitions. The result meant that Bayern are on top of the table but only on goal difference as Union Berlin drew against Schalke after their second Bundesliga defeat of the season.

Gladbach took a lead when Lars Stindl scored in the 13th minute after Bayern got off to a nightmare start when Dayot Upamecano was sent off for bringing down Alassane Plea outside the box in the eighth minute. Bayern kept going forward and were rewarded in the 35th minute when Alphonso Davies used his pace down the wing and cut it back for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who slotted in the equaliser for his eighth league goal this season.

Bayern fell behind again after the restart when Gladbach outplayed the visitors’ outnumbered defence with a quick passing move as Jonas Hofmann scored with a cool finish in the 55th minute. Substitute Marcus Thuram added the icing on the cake when he made sure of the three points after he finished off an almost identical move. Mathys Tel pulled a consolation goal back for Bayern in added time as the Foals have become Bayern’s bogeyman team in the league and have now claimed 10 wins against Bayern since the 2011-12 season.

Borussia Dortmund went level on points with Bayern as they crushed Hertha Berlin 4-1 on Sunday with a goal and an assist from Karim Adeyemi. The Ruhr club stretched their winning run in the league to six consecutive matches this year. Germany international Adeyemi continued his rich form when he put the hosts ahead with a superb backheel flick from a Marco Reus assist in the 27th minute before he used his pace to turn provider to feed Donyell Malen at the far post for their second goal.

Adeyemi had to be taken off after pulling a thigh muscle as the visitors cut the deficit one minute after the restart through Lucas Tousart. That affected Dortmund as they were brutally efficient and scored their four goals with a mere five shots on target. Reus restored the two goal advantage with a free kick into the top corner in the 76th minute while Julian Brandt netted their fourth goal in the final minute. Fresh from their 1-0 Champions League round-of-16 win over Chelsea in midweek, Dortmund have now won all six Bundesliga matches this year and are on 43 points, second on goal difference to Bayern and ahead of Union Berlin
