Gavi Signs Barcelona Deal Until 2030

The 20-year-old midfielder joined La Masia at the age of ten and has played for the Blaugrana team for half of his life.

Gavi will celebrate his 21st birthday and ten years at Barcelona next summer. He came to Barça as a young player in 2015, and he was so focused on becoming a star that he waited months for a FIFA ban to end before making his official debut. Gavi has now committed to the team until 2030 after wearing the jersey for half of his life.

Gavi made his debut in August 2021 after impressing coach Ronald Koeman during a preseason workout at the age of 17. He became a staple in the team under Xavi’s tutelage, and German coach Hansi Flick is now interested in him. Last Sunday, Gavi demonstrated his altruism by letting Pablo Torre, who plays significantly fewer minutes on the field than he does, be his fifth substitute.

Gavi has played in all three midfield positions with Flick, but at the beginning of 2025, when Dani Olmo is not available, he is especially making a name for himself in the attacking midfield position.

Barcelona has secured Gavi’s future, securing three key members of the team’s core after midfield maestro Pedri and defender Ronald Araújo had their contracts renewed. The seasoned Iñigo Martínez, who won his spot with Cubarsí after a spectacular first half of the season, comes next on the list. As Lamine Yamal turns 18 and enters adulthood, admirers will have to wait until July to see if the extraordinary potential can be contained.

As a member of the first team, this is Gavi’s second contract renewal. His first was signed in September 2022, but in order to be registered in Liga, a judge had to step in. It is anticipated that the process would go more smoothly this time, particularly after the club was able to do regular business in the transfer market on January 3 after 475 VIP seats at Spotify Camp Nou were sold.

After missing almost eleven months of action owing to a catastrophic knee injury, the midfielder from Los Palacios is now fully recovered. He sustained a meniscus injury and a total rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing for Spain. Gavi has now played in 20 games this season, nine of which he has started, and scored two goals (against Betis and Athletic).

Many in the locker room believe that Gavi will become a captain in the future, and this new contract will allow him to continue gaining priceless experience. He’s played 131 games so far, 11 more than his agent, former player Iván de la Peña, who has coached the Barça number 6 and witnessed the renewal signing. For Barça, Gavi’s heart still beats.
