According to TMW, head coach Gian Piero Gasperini and striker Ademola Lookman had a crucial meeting at Atlanta’s training facility to discuss settling a recent dispute.
Antonio Percassi, the club president, served as a mediator and worked to keep the team cohesive.
The conflict resulted from Gasperini’s harsh evaluation of Lookman’s penalty-taking skills following the Champions League encounter against Brugge.
The coach called him “one of the worst penalty takers,” which infuriated several club owners who saw Lookman as an important player and representative of Atalanta on the international scene, particularly after his victory in the African Ballon d’Or and Europa League final.
A brief truce was reached after Percassi was able to calm both sides. Both parties stated that they are willing to cooperate until the end of the season, yet it is still unclear if this truce would last.
The focus now shifts to Gasperini’s use of Lookman in the forthcoming games. Close observation of the issue is required in light of the recent incident involving Alejandro Gomez, in which the coach progressively phased the player out of the starting lineup.
Lookman, who recently returned from injury, might start the game against Empoli on the bench. This time around, though, the conflict probably won’t have the same dire consequences as Gomez’s.
