(Motorsport news) Organizers have unveiled exciting plans for the 2024 Formula One season, announcing the inclusion of exhilarating sprint races at two prestigious locations—the renowned Miami and Chinese Grands Prix. This pivotal decision, disclosed on Tuesday, marks a strategic continuation of the sprint race format, initially introduced in 2022 and featured on three select race weekends. A noteworthy alteration for the upcoming season is the exclusion of the Saturday sprint from the Azerbaijan and Belgian races, both of which had each hosted one in the 2023 season.
The inclusion of Shanghai in the sprint race lineup is poised to present a formidable challenge for both teams and drivers, signifying Formula One’s much-anticipated return to China after an absence since 2019. Concurrently, the addition of a sprint race in Miami is expected to inject a fresh and captivating dimension into an already enthralling race weekend. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the governing body of motorsports, emphasized the significance of these developments in shaping the future of Formula One.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the United States, Austrian, Brazilian, and Qatari Grands Prix are slated to once again host sprint races, with the victor securing eight championship points. This strategic move aims to sustain the heightened excitement and competitiveness of the Formula One calendar.
As the motorsport community anticipates the upcoming season, all eyes are set on Max Verstappen, who aims to secure an extraordinary fourth consecutive drivers’ world title. Verstappen’s remarkable performance in the record-breaking 2023 season, where he triumphed in 19 out of 22 races and secured victories in four sprints, positions him as a formidable force, setting the stage for an electrifying campaign in the upcoming year.
