Following the announcement of its compound selections for the first races of 2024, Pirelli will bring their softest Formula 1 tires to the Australian Grand Prix the following year.

(Motorsports news) Teams are already familiar with the Italian company’s behavior as it has decided to maintain its current tire specification for the upcoming season. Therefore, Pirelli has already committed to its compound selections for the first three grand prix of the upcoming season, with nothing more to learn about the various tires.

After opting not to use the sixth compound, which would have been the hardest in its lineup in 2023, Pirelli will bring the C1, C2, and C3 to the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix and will soften up a bit for the second race in Saudi Arabia, where the C2, C3, and C4 will compete. These choices are the same as those made this year. The major modification will occur for the championship’s third round in Australia, where the softer C3, C4, and C5 compounds will be used.

Pirelli expects the change will provide more strategic choices in addition to potentially easing the tire warm-up issues that plagued the race’s latter stages this year. When a new construction arrived for the British Grand Prix in 2023, Pirelli decided to continue with the same tires for the following year. In the latter part of the year, the corporation conducted test compound adjustments; nonetheless, the anticipated progress was not achieved.

A modified C4 made its debut in Mexico, and an alternative C2 was tested for the F1 Japanese Grand Prix, although neither was thought to be worthwhile. Mario Isola, Pirelli’s head of vehicle racing and F1, is certain that the present standard can handle whatever is thrown at them in 2024, despite the fact that Pirelli has frequently had to increase the design of its tires to cope with ever-increasing downforce levels.

“If I look at the simulations we received in June, with the current construction, we can cope with this level of load,” he stated. “But this year, for example, they have been able to achieve a higher level of performance or downforce compared to simulations earlier in the year.”
