(Football news) Antonio Rudiger is about to enter the final 6 months of his current contract with Chelsea. The German is yet to sign an extension with the club and is legally allowed to hold talks and sign a pre contractual agreement with any other club.
Almost every single report suggests the same stance about Rudiger's situation. Chelsea want to renew Rudiger's contract and the defender is very open to do so. The financial terms and interest for a new challenge at another club are the two factors working against Chelsea. Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint Germain are all interested but Real Madrid is definitely the front runner at this moment in time.
Madrid, who have just lost long term defensive duos and legends Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane this summer are very keen and confident of securing his services. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez gets what he wants more often than not. Interest from the Los Blancos is tempting to any footballer and they are very difficult to say no to for any player.
Real Madrid this season have been vulnerable in defense. Despite that, David Alaba and Eder Militao have been a solid pairing at the back. The goals that Madrid have leaked are mostly because of Carlo Ancelotti's attacking tactics. It goes without saying that any player who comes to Real Madrid will have to fight for his place. Currently, Real Madrid's back up centre backs are Nacho and Jesus Vallejo. Nacho is a versatile defender who can play anywhere in the back four but isn't the most consistent and strong centre back. Vallejo on the other hand is massively inexperienced and simply cannot be trusted in big games.
If Rudiger does come to Madrid, he is likely to battle Militao and Alaba for a starting spot. Another option would be to relocate Alaba to the left and bench Ferland Mendy who has been very solid since joining Madrid. The competition will be very good for Real Madrid as right now the only position where there is competition is on the right wing.
Rudiger has been at the peak of his powers ever since Thomas Tuchel took charge of Chelsea. The center half has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league if not the world. Rudiger would be a great addition to any club in the world and Real Madrid are no exception to it. The German's age is another plus point as he is just 28 years of age. Signing a defender of Rudiger's calibre in his prime for free would undoubtedly be a great deal.
