(Football news) After 15 years at Real Madrid, Marcelo has left the club. His career with Los Blancos was filled with trophies. In the 2021/22 season which was his first and last season as club captain, Real Madrid won the La Liga and the Champions League. According to reports, the Brazilian could have hung up his boots and stayed at Real Madrid in some other role. The left-back however rejected the offer saying that he still has some football left in him.
Marcelo hasn't played regular football for over two seasons now. His fitness is a major issue which makes his next move all the more difficult. Fenerbahce and Marseille are the two clubs who are interested in his services. A move to Brazil is definitely on the cards but only if Marcelo doesn't have the ambition of playing in Europe. Despite a natural drop in form with age, Marcelo still has the ability to succeed at any European club. The demands of Real Madrid may be too much right now but a move to Marseille who are in the Champions League is something which will be interesting to see.
Marcelo's defensive ability has never been his greatest strength but attacking wise he is still world class. Even in his final appearances for Real Madrid he could ping accurate crosses with ease. Marcelo's leadership skill is also a very big asset as he has been one of the main guys in that successful Real Madrid dressing room. Both France and Turkey are leagues in which he could thrive in. At the age of 34, Marcelo isn't going to be a long term option for any club as he is already way past his prime. The duration of his contract offers will not be more than two years.
