What position will Mikel Arteta play Oleksandr Zinchenko at Arsenal?

(Football news) Arsenal have completed the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. The final deal is said to be worth £30m with the contract running till 2026. Zinchenko is Arsenal's fourth signing of the summer. After bottling a top 4 finish last season, Mikel Arteta will be very keen to get it next season. The signings of former Manchester City players Jesus and Zinchenko will be very crucial. The fact that Arteta has worked with both of them when he was the assistant manager of City is a very big factor. Arsenal are also linked with Youri Tielemans who could be the last piece of the Mikel Arteta's puzzle.

The biggest strength of Zinchenko is his flexibility but it also gives Arteta something to think about. Zinchenko for the majority of his Manchester City career has played at left back but he plays in midfield for Ukraine which is his natural position. Presumably Arteta has already had a conversation with the player about his role in the side. Zinchenko is likely to be used in both positions from time to time. Arsenal are trying to get rid of Nuno Tavares while Kieron Tierney is the first choice left back. Zinchenko and Tierney could battle with each other for a starting spot. Arsenal have a lot of options in midfield but Arteta could give Zinchenko a chance to play in his natural position.

Zinchenko was never a first choice player at Manchester City but he always did a good job whenever called upon. He has played in a lot of big games including UCL knockouts. The fact that Zinchenko has left City for Arsenal shows that Arteta has guaranteed him playing time which he didn't get at City. The Ukrainian is just 25 years of age and is about to enter his prime. He is at a point of his career where he needs continuity and be first choice. Arsenal have spent money in this window despite missing out on the Champions League. Arteta has to deliver a top 4 finish this season as he has got enough backing and time in the past two and a half years.
