Vinicius set to renew Real Madrid contract despite interest from PSG

(Football news) Vinicius Jr is all set to sign a new contract with Real Madrid that will keep him at the club till 2027. His new wages will be three times more than his current wages. At first Vinicius wanted the new contract till 2026 but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez convinced him to renew it till 2027. According to reports in Spain, PSG asked Vinicius not to renew with Real Madrid and promised him 12 times more than his current salary and around 4 times more than his next salary among other things. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool also inquired about the player but Vinicius always wanted to continue with Real Madrid.

It's been almost 4 years since Real Madrid signed an 18 year old Vinicius for €46 million. In his first 3 seasons the Brazilian showed sparks of his talent but never really proved to be deadly. He received heavy criticism for his decision making and lack of finishing ability. Last season was a completely different story altogether. Vinicius Jr got 22 goals and 20 assists in 52 games last season and was a big reason why Real Madrid ended the season as UCL and La Liga winners. The winger scored several important goals including the only goal against Liverpool in the UCL final. A renewal with Real Madrid was imminent and now just the official announcement is pending. The failure of Kylian Mbappe's transfer is a blessing in disguise for Vinicius who can now continue to play in his preferred left wing position.

Keeping up with the numbers produced last season is going to be very difficult for Vinicius Jr, let alone bettering them. At the age of just 22 he still has a lot of room for improvement. His partnership with Karim Benzema is stronger than ever but Benzema soon is going to slow down with age. Vinicius will soon have to step up as the leader of the attack. Real Madrid's rebuild is almost complete with the signings of Antonio Rudiger and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Next season Vinicius under his new contract will have to keep going at the same pace. Vinicius shares an incredible bond with Real Madrid and its fans and that bond will only get stronger with time with this new contract being the first step towards it.
