(Football news) Real Madrid have extended their lead at the top of the table to 4 points. Atletico Madrid jumped to 2nd on the table while Barcelona are still outside the top 6 despite their win against Villarreal.
Barcelona left it late to win 3-1 away at Villarreal. After a goalless first half, Frenkie de Jong finished off a great attacking move to break the deadlock in the 48th minute. In the 75th minute Samuel Chukwueze scored a bullet just 11 minutes after he was brought on. With the game all squared in the 88th minute, Pervis Estupinan tried to head Marc Andre Ter Stegan's goal kick back towards Geronimo Rulli but could only manage to head it to Memphis Depay who slotted it home to give Barcelona a priceless lead. Substitute Philippe Coutinho won and scored a penalty kick in the dying minutes of the game to secure 3 very crucial points for the Catalan side who do not have a midweek fixture. Xavi's men will host Real Betis on Saturday before their do or die match against Bayern Munich.
Atletico Madrid's trip to Cadiz was a successful one as they won 4-1. Neither team managed to score for 55 minutes but Diego Simeone's side switched gears to score three times in 20 minutes. Thomas Lemar, Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa found the back of the net. Anthony Lozano pulled a goal back for Cadiz but Mathius Cunha restored the 3 goal lead straight from kick off. Atletico Madrid now have a home game against Mallorca on Saturday. The Rojiblancos then travel to Porto in a game that could take them to the UCL knockouts or UEL knockouts or eliminate them completely.
