(Football news) In the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League semi final, Villarreal look to do the unthinkable. The yellow Submarine were outplayed in the first leg at Anfield as they lost 2-0. Villarreal tried their best to resist the reds but an own goal from Pervis Estupinan opened the scoring after which Sadio Mane doubled the lead. Now Villarreal have the daunting task of scoring at least two goals against the mighty Liverpool. Unai Emery will have to move away from his conservative approach in order to score the required goals.
Jurgen Klopp didn't start Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Thiago and Trent Alexander-Arnold against Newcastle which just shows that he is not underestimating Villarreal. Villarreal on the weekend rested a lot of players as they lost away at Deportivo Alaves. Roberto Firmino is still not fit while Divock Origi has returned from illness. As for Villarreal Alberto Moreno and Yeremi Pino are yet to recover while Arnaut Danjuma and Gerard Moreno's availability is doubtful. Villarreal will have to pull off a miracle to get to the UCL final but Emery would fancy his chances in front of a packed La Ceramica.
Villarreal really struggled to get hold of the ball in the first leg. Dani Parejo will have to play a pivotal role in midfield. The yellow Submarine will have to neutralize Liverpool's full back threat and the best way would be to keep them on the back foot. There is a slight chance that Klopp might drop a couple players keeping the Premier League title race in mind. If the Spanish team does manage to pull off the comeback then it will be nothing short of historical. On paper the contest is already over but Villarreal's passionate fans are expected to be cheering for their side.
