Spurs get a comfortable win at Brighton to keep top 4 hopes alive

(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur lost a close encounter to Manchester United on the weekend courtesy of a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. The loss massively affected their chances of securing a Champions League spot but they have responded well with a 2-0 win away at Brighton. Spurs are now 7th on the Premier League table and their next game against 6th place West Ham will be very important.

Tottenham applied the pressure right from the beginning. The visitors came very close to taking the lead when Harry Kane robbed the ball off Robert Sanchez and had an empty net to aim at but hit his shot wide of the post. They did take the lead in the 37th minute when Dejan Kulusevski's shot deflected of Christian Romero into the back of the net. Kulusevski had another chance just before half time where he was one on one with Sanchez but the goalkeeper saved it.

In the 57th minute Rodrigo Bentancur set up Kane who doubled Tottenham's lead. The goal was the striker's 95th away goal in the Premier League which took him past Wayne Rooney to become the player with the most away goals in the history of the Premier League. Sanchez made a few very good saves to keep the score at 2-0 but Brighton couldn't create anything at the other end.

It was a very professional performance from Tottenham Hotspur who were very solid throughout the game. Harry Kane gave one of his best performances of the season as he scored a goal and was involved in almost every good chance Spurs created. It is very crucial for Tottenham that Kane stays at the club next season as well. Antonio Conte needs to work on his side's consistency as they haven't won back to back games since December.
