(Football news) After 16 glorious trophy laden years at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos left for PSG. Real Madrid fans were sent into a frenzy when Real Madrid drew PSG in the UCL Round of 16. The thought of their beloved captain playing against Real Madrid was scary and emotional for Madrid fans.
It turns out now that Real Madrid may not have to go through that nightmare at least for the first leg. Sergio Ramos has played only 239 minutes for PSG this season due to recurring injuries. After so many years of solidity and regular football it seems like Ramos' body has slowed down. The 35 year old has one and a half years left on his deal and if he keeps getting injured his career might be over when that contract ends.
Ramos' absence will be a huge advantage to Real Madrid even though PSG have Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos in good form. Ramos' ability to produce in the big games with his leadership is why PSG signed him and games like these is where they need him the most. PSG are still hunting for their maiden UCL title and Real Madrid will be a tough challenge. PSG were recently eliminated from the French cup on penalties after failing to score for 120 despite having Lionel Messi on the pitch for the full game. Kylian Mbappe was subbed on in the 64th minute but couldn't make an impact.
According to reports Manager Mauricio Pochettino has been informed that he will be sacked after the season. Even if the reports aren't true it is tough to see Pochettino continue if PSG get knocked out of the UCL Round of 16 even if it is against Real Madrid. PSG will most likely win the Ligue 1 as they have a healthy 11 point lead at the top of the table but PSG have a squad that shouldn't be satisfied with the title if they don't make it past the last 16 of the UCL and French Cup.
