Real Madrid start negotiating with Rodrygo for a new contract

(Football news) The Real Madrid board are having a very busy summer transfer window. The club has already secured the signings of Antonio Rudiger and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Luka Modric has also renewed his contract for another season. According to reliable reports Vinicius Jr's renewal till 2027 has been completed and only the official announcement is remaining. The renewals of Karim Benzema and Eder Militao are already being discussed internally. At the moment Real Madrid are now working on renewing Rodrygo's contract.

Rodrygo's current deal runs out in 2025 and Real Madrid want to tie him up for a few more years. Real Madrid reportedly wanted the new deal to be till 2028 but the player wants it to run till 2027. The new contract is likely to have a significant increase in wages and a massive signing bonus considering the incredible performances he showed last season. Rodrygo had some very good performances last season, especially towards the back end of the campaign. The Brazilian scored two stoppage time goals in the UCL semi final against Manchester City to force the game into extra time which was the highlight of his season.

Despite all that he hasn't been a regular starter for Carlo Ancelotti. Fede Valverde has started almost all the important games on the right wing. Rodrygo's preferred position is on the left but Vinicius Jr is undroppable on that side. He is still just 21 years of age and has a lot of development left to do. Real Madrid are ready to sell Marco Asensio and bring in another attacker in this window. There are some aspects of his game that Rodrygo needs to improve but Real Madrid have decided to show faith in him by giving him a new deal. The failed transfer of Kylian Mbappe in a way is good news for Rodrygo. Real Madrid are constantly linked with attackers such as Heung-min Son, Serge Gnabry and Paulo Dybala. Rodrygo is likely to have more competition next season and he will have to step up his game.
