(Football news) Manchester United have announced that Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard will leave the club this summer as free agents. Both the players are academy graduates with Lingard ending his 20 year association with the club while Pogba had left Manchester United in 2012 for Juventus on a free transfer, only to return four years later for a world-record fee of £89m.
In a statement issued by Manchester United, they said “The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon the expiry of his contract. Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United. We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey."
The Frenchman scored 39 goals in 233 first-team appearances and has had an underwhelming time at the club, failing to replicate the consistency he has shown for his national team. He has won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in his first season back at the club but has not managed to achieve those heights at the Red Devils since then. He is expected to re-join Juventus this summer on a free transfer once again.
As for Lingard, he joined Manchester United as an 8 year old and has scored 35 times for the club, making 232 appearances as well as having 32 caps for England. A statement released by Manchester United read “We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he's helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career." The 29 year old has been linked with a move to West Ham, a club that he played for during a six month loan spell, scoring nine goals while Newcastle United might also be a potential destination.
