Omar Richards joins Nottingham Forest from Bayern Munich

(Football news) Nottingham Forest are set to sign Omar Richards from Bayern Munich. Forest had to compete with French side Lyon, who also wanted to bring in the English wing-back but he ultimately decided to come to the Premier League. Richards joined Bayern from Reading in the summer of 2021 but hasn’t made a lasting impression at Bayern. The 24-year-old made 12 appearances in the Bundesliga last season but with the likes of Lucas Hernandez back fit and Alphonso Davies available after suffering mild myocarditis, getting game time at Bayern might have been difficult for him.

Forest were looking to bring in a pair of left-sided wing-backs this summer as they are already in discussions over signing Harry Toffolo from Huddersfield Town also. Richards has played in the Championship prior to his move to Germany. He went on to make 92 league appearances for Reading and scored twice for Reading. He has also gone on to represent England Under-21s once. Richards failed to establish himself as a reliable back up when Davies was unavailable for multiple months and that sparked the rumor mill that Bayern wanted to offload the Englishman.

The report claims that Bayern have agreed a €12 million fee It seemed illogical on behalf of the Bayern board to offload Richards just yet, as Bayern would again be without a backup for Davies but with all signings within the club already, it will be seen if Bayern do search for a left-back as they still aim to sign a midfielder, defender and striker after having already secured three players. Omar Richards became their fourth major signing of the summer after they signed Moussa Niakhate, Dean Henderson and Taiwo Awoniyi. Steve Cooper’s side will be hoping that these signings help them avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
