(Football news) Manchester City loanee Julian Alvarez scored 6 goals in River Plate's 8-1 win over Alianza Lima 8-1. Alvarez has continued his incredible form and taken it to a new level. The 22 year old has scored 14 goals this year for River Plate and will be heading to Manchester City at the beginning of next season. The Blues signed the striker for €21.4 million on a five and a half year deal before loaning him back to River Plate for the remainder of the season.
Amidst all the hype about the arrival of Erling Haaland, people seem to have forgotten about Alvarez. He will be an incredible addition to the Manchester City squad as someone who can play anywhere in the front three. Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano said “We’ve had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez but he is not going to leave. He will do pre-season with us and I think he will stay." Soriano also denied any interest from Barcelona for his services despite rumors. There is still a high chance that Alvarez is sent on another loan spell, perhaps in Europe for some experience. Haaland is expected to be the main striker and is likely to play the majority of the games. City have a bulk load of other players who have successfully played through the middle under Pep Guardiola.
Ultimately it will all come down to what Guardiola's intentions with the player are. If he assures Alvarez that he will get regular game time then the player will definitely stay. If not then he might choose to go out on loan or fight for his place. Haaland and Alvarez are two exciting talents that will add quality to the already amazing Manchester City side. Haaland has a lot more expectations and hype but Alvarez could be somewhat of a surprise package. His 6 goals have definitely caught people's attention and most importantly that of Pep Guardiola.
