Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp signs contract extension until 2026

(Football news) Jurgen Klopp has signed a new and improved contract extension with Liverpool until the summer of 2026. Along with the German, assistant managers Pep Ljinders and Peter Krawietz have also signed new contracts. Fenway Sports Group (FSG) President Mike Gordon visited Anfield during the team’s Champions League semi-final match against Villarreal with the intention of discussing the contract extension with Klopp after which positive talks were held between the two parties.

Klopp has been in-charge of Liverpool since 2015 and his team is currently on course for a quadruple, with only one match separating them from a third Champions League final in four years. His team will also face Chelsea in the FA Cup final in May and are currently 2nd in the Premier League, just a point behind reigning champions and league leaders Manchester City, having already won the Carabao Cup earlier this year.

In his seven years in Liverpool, Klopp has already won five trophies including a Champions League in 2019 and the club’s first Premier League title in 30 years in the 2019/20 season. Speaking after extending his contract, Jurgen Klopp said “There's something to announce. Like last time, some will like it, some will not like it too much. If you do not like it, stop watching now. I will stay for another two years. And not only me! No, all my coaches as well, which is the most important actually.

"Why? is now the question… because Ulla wants to stay! As a good husband, what are you doing when your wife wants to stay? You stay. That's not the only reason, but it's one of the reasons. You know, I love our club, it's the best place to be. I feel really, really lucky. What is it now? Six and a half years ago, FSG thought it would be a good idea to bring a German fella in and here we are. We will stay for another two, making it four from now on. Wow! That's a long time in football. Hope we all will enjoy the time together. See you soon…"
