La Liga preview: Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona look to get back to winning ways after dropping points midweek

(Football news) Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid all dropped points in their midweek fixtures. Real Sociedad are currently top of the table followed by Real Madrid. Atletico and Barcelona are 6th and 9th on the table.

Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw at the Bernabeu by Osasuna. Madrid will be very keen on getting all 3 points away at Elche. Luka Modric is back in training and could return to the starting line up. Fede Valverde, Isco, Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos are still not fit. Elche are currently 15th on the table having won only 2 games so far this season. Real Madrid haven't won 1 of their last 4 La Liga games which is a concern for Carlo Ancelotti. The Los Blancos have to get 3 points to keep their place on the table steady. Elche, just like Osasuna, will defend with 9 men but Madrid will have to find a way to break the deadlock early.

Barcelona will play Deportivo Alaves at the Camp Nou. The game will be the first since the sacking of Ronald Koeman. Interim manager Sergi Barjuan will take charge of the team for the first time. Ousmane Dembélé could return to the squad while Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, Pedri, Ronald Aruajo, Frenkie De Jong and Sergi Roberto will all be out with injuries. Alaves are 16th on the table after getting 2 back to back wins. Barcelona on the other hand have lost their last two league games. Barjuan will have to get 3 points from this match to keep Barcelona afloat. The Blaugrana also have an important UCL away game Dynamo Kiev next week which has to be on the new manager's mind.

After two back to back 2-2 draws, Atletico Madrid will host Real Betis. A win for Atletico will take them above Betis in the table. Marcos Llorente and Thomas Lemar are still out with their respective injuries. Manager Diego Simeone will not be on the touchline after getting a red card in the game against Levante. Real Betis on the other hand will be without Victor Camarasa and Youssouf Sabaly who are injured while Edgar Gonzalez is suspended. The champions are currently struggling having failed to win any game since the international break. They will need to be on their A game if they want to get 3 points against Betis.
