(Football news) Paulo Dybala is set to leave Juventus on a free transfer after failing to agree on a contract extension that is due to expire this summer. The 28 year old will not be signing a new deal with the Turin based club after his agent spent over 2 hours with the club's representatives over a new contract but failed to come up with a resolution. In his seven years stay at Juventus, Dybala has won five Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia trophies since his arrival from Parma in June 2015.
A verbal agreement was rumored to have been agreed between the two parties in late 2021 but now the forward will be looking to join a new club this summer, having previously been linked to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. Juventus director Arrivabene said “We won’t extend Paulo Dybala’s contract. We’re not gonna do any other proposal – the decision has been made”. The 28 year old has struggled with injuries this season and recently played his first game in over a month, scoring the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Salernitana. Dybala has scored 13 goals in 29 games across all competitions this season.
Here are a few clubs that Dybala might move to this summer.
1) Barcelona
Considering Barca’s financial difficulties, getting a player of Paulo Dybala’s quality and experience on a free transfer might be exactly what they need. It’s clear that while recent results have gone their way, the Catalans are still in the process of a significant rebuild after Lionel Messi’s departure and having another Argentine at the Camp Nou might propel them back amongst Europe’s elite clubs. Xavi’s team are on course to finish fourth in La Liga and Dybala adds valuable Champions League experience to the squad. However, his wages and agent demands may pose a problem for a possible transfer.
2) Inter Milan
Despite winning the Scudetto last season, the Nerazzurri have endured a turbulent season this time around and are currently third in the Serie A. With just one win in the last five matches, Inzaghi will look to bolster the squad in the upcoming January transfer window and a move for Dybala might be exactly what they need to win the Scudetto and seriously compete in Europe. The signing of Edin Dzeko on a free transfer has already shown the benefits of what bringing in a player with tremendous quality can add to their squad and a frontline of Dybala, Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez could be a lethal combination.
3) Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs were close to signing Dybala in Mauricio Pochettino’s final transfer for a fee believed to be in the region of £64.4m but the deal eventually fell through due to disagreements about image rights and the forward getting cold feet on transfer deadline day. This time around, Antonio Conte could look to sign Dybala on a free transfer to further bolster his attack which already consists of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, and Bryan Gil.
