(Football news) Newly appointed Paris Saint-Germain football director Luis Campos is on the hunt for a veteran centre-back to bolster the team’s defence. He has turned his attention to Inter’s Milan Skriniar, and his latest bid to sign him came up quite short. PSG’s latest offer was centred on a €60 million transfer fee and midfielder Julian Draxler. The reigning Coppa Italia champions turned down the offer as they are aiming to get a massive transfer fee only.
According to reports, the Serie A side would consider parting ways with Skriniar if PSG table a €70 million offer for him. Inter Milan has been adamant from the start about not taking in a player in a deal centering on Skriniar. Earlier in the month, PSG had offered Thilo Kehrer to the Serie A side in an attempt to lower the price tag for Skriniar as Inter Milan officials turned down such an offer from the French Champions. PSG don’t need a centre-back in the summer transfer window, but Campos is looking to tighten up the defence and add some depth within the group. If Skriniar joins PSG they can form a formidable defensive trio of Kimpembe, Marquinhos.
Milan Skriniar is a powerful, athletic and wholeheartedly committed defender. He has been at the centre of Inter's recent renaissance, and played a crucial part when they were crowned Italian champions in 2021. This year also he went on to win two more trophies as the Slovakian international has been a paragon of stability in the Nerazzurri back three alongside regular colleagues Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij and has faced down Europe's best forwards in the Champions League. Luis Campos rates him quite highly and feels he could be the one big signing that change PSG’s fortune
Inter Milan on the other hand are reportedly closer to signing Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic. The Serbian defender will cost the San Siro side €15m as Spurs were interested in both the Fiorentina defender and Skriniar, with Fabio Paratici trying to sign a centre-back since last summer. Inter’s financial problems means that they most likely need to sell off Skriniar as it will be a huge boom to the club’s books. Milenkovic is a cost-effective replacement who has over the years proven to be an excellent defender in Serie A, with Newcastle United and West Ham previously linked with the Serbian international.
