(Football news) A brace by Bartholomew Ogbeche helped Hyderabad FC record a comprehensive 6-1 win over Odisha FC in the Indian Super League at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. The 37 year old Nigerian scored in the 39th and 60th minute after Hector Rodas scored an own goal in the 9th minute while Edu Garcia (54th), Javier Siverio (72nd) and Joao Victor (86 P) also got on the scoresheet for Hyderabad FC. Juanan scored an own goal in the 16th minute to make it 1-1 for Odisha FC and they failed to find the back of the net afterwards.
With this result Hyderabad FC remain in second place in the Indian Super League table with 15 points from eight games while Odisha are seventh in the table having 10 points from eight matches. Bartholomew Ogbeche is the top scorer in the league with eight goals. It was Hyderabad FC who took an early lead in the ninth minute Edu Garcia’s inviting freekick was flicked by Joao Victor and a deflection from Odisha FC’s Hector Rodas ensured it went into the back of the net. However, Odisha FC equalized in near identical fashion as a freekick from Javier Hernandez went into the back of the net after hitting Juanan’s chest.
With two own goals scored early in the match, Odisha FC had an opportunity to take the lead after Nandhakumar Sekar’s cross was fluffed by Jonathas Cristian. The Kalinga Warriors had a few more chances but Bartholomew Ogbeche gave Hyderabad FC the lead against the run of play in the 39th minute with a powerful header from Edu Garcia’s cross. The second half proved to be an even more scintillating performance for Hyderabad FC as Edu Garcia scored his side’s third goal in the 54th minute with a powerful shot in the bottom right corner.
At the hour mark, Ogbeche scored his second goal of the match with a powerful left footed strike into the bottom corner. The 37 year old was replaced by Javier Siverio in the 68th minute who scored just four minutes later after an assist by Juanan. He also won a penalty five minutes from time after being brought down by Gaurav Bora. Joao Victor duly converted from the spot to wrap up the dominant performance. Hyderabad FC will next face ATK Mohun Bagan on 5th January 2022 at the Fatorda Stadium while Odisha FC will take on Mumbai City FC at the Tilak Maidan on 3rd January.
