(Football news) Ousmane Dembele, whose contract runs out in July, rejected multiple renewal offers from Barcelona as It was reported that the player and his team felt that the offer was not good enough. Club director Mateu Alemany came out and said "The reality is that we began negotiations with his agents five months ago. During this time there has been continuous communication in which the club's position has been to want him to continue"
"Different offers have been made to him, we worked really hard and put in a lot of effort, we have done enough for the player to consider what he has to do with his future. We are 11 days away from the closing of the transfer window and we understand that… the player has decided not to continue and what we want are players committed to Barca. Both for his sake and for the club he has to leave as soon as possible." said Alemany. Dembele since then hasn't been a part of the Barcelona squad.
In the transfer window Dembele didn't have advanced negotiations with any clubs although there were rumors linking him with PSG and Chelsea but there was nothing substantial. Barcelona President Joan Laporta has said that there was an offer from a Premier club and he was surprised that the player didn't accept it. He also said that Dembele most likely already has an agreement with another club to join in the summer where he will be a free agent.
There are reports that Barcelona could terminate Dembele's contract so that he doesn't have to come and train with the team which could have a bad influence on the other players. Despite making 4 signings in January, Barcelona could use Dembele even if it is for just for the time being. If Dembele is committed enough, Xavi could bring him back into the squad and use him for the betterment of the team.
It is very likely that Barcelona will stick with their decision and completely exile Dembele. Whether they terminate his contract or not remains to be seen. The whole situation has been a mess for Barcelona whose financial problems were already troublesome before the Dembele saga started. It is difficult to predict where the player will go. Kylian Mbappe is likely to leave for Real Madrid in the summer and Dembele wouldn't be a bad replacement at PSG.
