(Football news) Fede Valverde has been one of the most exciting young midfielders in the World for some time now but this year he has been on a whole different level altogether. The Uruguayan has scored 3 goals in his last 3 matches for Real Madrid which brings his total goal tally this season to 4 goals in 9 games and 2 assists. Carlo Ancelotti in a press conference jokingly said "I've told Fede Valverde that if he doesn't score at least 10 goals this season, I will tear up my coaching licence and leave!". With the way Valverde is playing, Ancelotti's coaching licence is very secure.
Real Madrid spent €5m to buy an 18 year old Valverde in 2016. He spent an entire season playing for the Castilla team where he managed to impress former Real Madrid player Santiago Solari who was the manager then. He then secured a loan move to La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna. Valverde made 24 league appearances as his side was relegated. Returning from his loan move Valverde managed to break into the first team after a good pre-season. He made mostly substitute appearances in the 2018/19 season but things turned around in 2019 as Valverde established himself as a key member of the squad. When Luka Modric's had a rare dip in form Valverde was ahead in the pecking order for a little while.
But later when Modric got his groove back Zidane moved Valverde onto the right wing where he continued to impress. Since then the midfielder hasn't looked back and has been one of the most important players in this Real Madrid side. Even though he rarely gets to play in his prefered central midfield position, Valverde does the job wherever his coach wants. In the future he will definitely make his mark in Real Madrid's midfield. Valverde is definitely a candidate to become the captain of Real Madrid as he has all the qualities that Real Madrid captain's have had since the club was formed. At the age of 24 it is scary how goos Valverde will be in his prime when he starts playing his natural position in midfield.
Valverde has always had work-rate and express pace but this season he has added a few more things to his game. Ancelotti has publicly said multiple times that Valverde needs to shoot more often and the Uruguayan has done that. He has scored some really good goals with either feet this season. His ball carrying ability has also improved a lot as he takes the ball from defence to attack in no time and that too all by himself. Valverde is also a very important part of Uruguay's squad that will play the World Cup later this year. It will be interesting to see how the youngster does at the biggest international stage in Qatar.
