Greg Stewart hat-trick helps Jamshedpur FC outclass Odisha

(Football news) Indian Super League club Jamshedpur FC defeated Odisha FC 4-0 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Tuesday with Scottish footballer Greg Stewart proving once again why he is one of the best players in the league this season with a first half hat-trick. The Red Miners took the lead just three minutes into the match through Peter Hartley while Stewart scored the first of his three goals a minute later while the other two came in the 21st and 35th minute. With this dominant result, Jamshedpur FC went from fifth position to second, one point ahead of 3rd place Hyderabad FC who have played one game less.

Greg Stewart was instrumental in the only goal of the match he didn’t score as well, the 31 year old gave the assist from a corner to Peter Hartley who opened the scoring in the third minute. One minute later, Stewart made it 2-0 after capitalizing on a mistake from the Odisha defence and going past Paul Ramfangzuava to unleash a right footed effort that went past Kamaljit Singh and into the top right corner. Stewart then scored a spectacular second goal with a freekick from 30 yards out with the curling effort going around the wall and into the back of the net. Stewart then sealed his hat-trick in the 35th minute by going past a few defenders and slotting the ball into the far post as the game went out of reach for Odisha FC after a little over the half hour mark.

However, Jamshedpur FC’s Alexandre Lima suffered an injury after the 33 year old Brazilian went past a defender and shot straight at the keeper, injuring himself in the process. This was the only downside in what was an almost perfect evening for Owen Coyle’s team. The second half did not live up to the goalfest of the first as Odisha FC desperately tried to reduce the margin and get back into the game. Kiko Ramirez brought on Nikhil Raj and Liridon Krasniqi but they failed to make a meaningful impact in the match as Odisha FC looked toothless in attack and were punished for it severely, particularly by Greg Stewart.
