(Football news) Ewan Sharp has joined interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s staff as assistant coach and analyst. Rangnick first worked alongside the Scotsman at New York Red Bulls where he worked as a performance analyst and the inclusion of Sharp in the Manchester United set up provides a major boost for a club that has recently seen the departures of both Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.
Sharp has previously worked at Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls, Lokomotiv Moscow and was the director of performance analysis at Northwestern University in the United States. His strengths lie in opposition scouting, match planning, in match & post match analysis and scouting identification and recruitment.
Sharp’s inclusion in the backroom staff comes after Chris Armas joined Manchester United earlier this month and both Sharp and Armas know each other well. In addition, sports psychologist Sascha Lense has also joined the squad to ensure the side remains mentally fit ahead of a busy run of fixtures during the festive period and beyond.
Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Mike Phelan will remain a part of the coaching set up despite Armas’ presence in the backroom staff as the club return to action against Newcastle United on December 27th at St. James’ Park after the postponement of two games due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
