(Football news) Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Anthony Modeste from FC Köln, with the striker joining the black and yellow on a one year contract. Borussia Dortmund have reinforced their attack with the signing of Anthony Modeste from FC Köln as the 34 year old joins them and will act as the short-term replacement for Sebastien Haller.
The BVB officials made the decision to sign another striker after Sebastien Haller was diagnosed with a malignant testicular tumour that will keep him sidelined for the majority of the season. They have found their short-term solution in Modeste, who is a proven goalscorer in the Bundesliga as his performances last season helped FC Koln finish seventh in the Bundesliga and qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League. He recently hinted that he would be open to a move away from the club and now he joins the best team in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, where he could have an important role to play this season up front.
Modeste scored 20 goals in just 32 Bundesliga appearances for FC Köln last season and 10 of those goals were headers, and he will certainly add a new dimension to Dortmund’s attacking play. According to reports in Germany, FC Köln will receive a transfer fee of just under five million euros for Modeste as the striker is in line to make his Borussia Dortmund debut on Friday in the Bundesliga against SC Freiburg. Anthony Modeste became Dortmund’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window. It remains to be seen if BVB will make further new signings before the transfer window closes, they are currently being linked with a move for Callum Hudson-Odoi who is reportedly interested in making the switch over to Germany to get more regular playing time.
