Didier Deschamps to try out Eduardo Camavinga at left back

(Football news) France's injury problems seem to be getting worse day by day. Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante were ruled out of the tournament before the squad was announced. Presnel Kimpembe, Christopher Nkunku and Karim Benzema had to withdraw after training for a few days. In France's opener against Australia, left back Lucas Hernandez injured himself in the build up to Australia's goal. He was replaced by his younger brother Theo Hernandez. France came back and scored 4 to win the contest pretty comfortably. After the game Lucas was diagnosed with an ACL injury which ruled him out of the tournament and now Theo is the only left back in the squad.

According to reports, Deschamps is training with Camavinga as a left back. Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi confirmed it saying “Camavinga played a bit as LB, he was very good, even scored a wonderful goal.” The 20-year-old has played that position a couple of times but he definitely won't be used to it. He is likely to be used only when Theo Hernandez is tired or injured. Camavinga's ability on the ball is definitely not in question but it is his discipline which is the problem. He often lunges into unnecessary challenges which is okay for a midfielder but can be catastrophic in defence. This is likely to be just a precautionary measure or at least that's what Deschamps will be hoping.

This is the time when Didier Deschamps will be regretting not calling up a replacement for Benzema as the squad just consists of 24 players. France have other right defenders who can slot in at left back but that will severely affect their attack. Deschamps will be hoping that all his players stay fit as he can't make any changes to the squad anymore. France's next match will be against Denmark on Saturday where a win will almost definitely secure their place in the Round of 16. That is when some of the regular players can be rested which will be beneficial as the tournament progresses.
