(Football news) Former Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to join Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer. Zagadou found his next club, as the defender was linked to multiple clubs but the young French defender opted to stay in Germany and join Stuttgart on a free transfer. The 23 year old was a free agent after he left Borussia Dortmund this summer when his contract expired at the end of the season.
Zagadou was linked with a number of clubs in the recent months with the likes of AS Roma, Inter Milan, West Ham United, TSG Hoffenheim and Olympique Lyonnais all showing interest in signing the French man. It appeared earlier that West Ham United were leading the race for his signature but Zagadou has now decided to stay in the Bundesliga and will undergo his medical today before signing a long term contract with VfB Stuttgart.
Zagadou spent five years at Borussia Dortmund after he joined the club on a free transfer from Paris St. Germain in 2017. He went on to make a total of 92 appearances for the Black and Yellows but injuries halted his progress and it was decided in May that his contract would not be extended by the BVB board. VfB Stuttgart were looking to sign a new defender following their disappointing start to the new campaign and in Zagadou, they have found a player with plenty of experience playing in the Bundesliga. Dan-Axel Zagadou still has a lot of potential, and if he manages to stay fit for an entire season then the centre-back can prove to be a very shrewd signing for Stuttgart.
