(Football news) It has been quite a busy period for Paris Saint Germain with a lot of changes. Kylian Mbappe finally signed a new contract after rejecting Real Madrid. Sporting director Leonardo left the club and was replaced by the highly rated Luis Campos. Manager Mauricio Pochettino's departure looks imminent at this moment in time. A lot of managers have been linked with the PSG job including Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho. The most recent one was Zinedine Zidane as reports claimed that the Frenchman had already agreed terms with the club.
Rumours in France went as far as stating that Zidane was already in Qatar to sign the contract with PSG's owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The manager's advisor Migliaccio was quick to respond by saying “All these rumours about an agreement with PSG are unfounded. Neither Zinedine nor I have been contacted directly by the PSG owner. I’m the only one allowed to speak for Zidane and represent him, as of today”. Even after the whole saga one can't be totally sure that the deal won't happen. Zidane has always been linked to take over from Didier Deschamps as the France manager. After the former midfielder left Real Madrid, Florentino Perez also said that Zidane wants to become the French national team manager.
Zidane will be taking a lot of risk if he is ever to join PSG as he is a former Marseille player who came through the clubs academy. Marseille and PSG have a very fierce rivalry which is called the Le Classique. Seeing one their very own become the manager of PSG would not have gone well with the Marseille fans. Zidane is also one of the biggest legends in the history of Real Madrid. Madridistas would have definitely been unhappy to watch Zidane manage PSG considering what happened with the whole Kylian Mbappe saga.
The power that PSG have shouldn't be underestimated and it's more than just financial. France president Emmanuel Macron is said to have been a major influence on Kylian Mbappe renewing his PSG contract. Macron recently also said that he wants Zinedine Zidane to manage PSG. The most surprising part is that Macron is a fan of PSG's fiercest rivals Marseille.
Current Nice manager Christophe Galtier is another candidate for the job. The Frenchman has previously worked with Campos during a successful period at Lille. He isn't a typical marquee signing but could do the job in Paris. PSG have gone for big names in the past and they haven't necessarily worked out. Hiring a French manager who has experience of managing in Ligue 1 could work in their favour but PSG need more than just a good manager to win the UCL.
