Brazil put 5 past Tunisia while Argentina win against Jamaica

(Football news) Brazil rolled past 10-man Tunisia 5-1 in a friendly with Raphinha scoring twice and then went on to set up another goal in their last game before the World Cup in Qatar in November. It was another dominant performance by the South American giants, who beat Ghana 3-0 on Friday as they gave their fans plenty of reasons to be excited by their young team heading into the World Cup where they aim for a record-extending sixth world title. Raphinha opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a brilliant header from the edge of the area over goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen. However, Tunisia did not back down and equalised seven minutes later with a header by Montassar Talbi from a free kick. Brazil were again back in front a minute later though when Raphinha turned provider and found Richarlison as the striker fired a low shot between the keeper's legs. During the goal celebrations, a banana was thrown from the stands towards the Brazil players which is unacceptable in any situation.

Brazil then went onto extend their lead through a Neymar penalty in the 29th minute as Raphinha scored his second with an accurate low shot from the edge of the box in the 40th minute. Two minutes later, Dylan Bronn received a straight red card for a foul on Neymar as victory was assured, when manager Tite sent on several substitutes, which included Flamengo young forward Pedro as he came on and netted the fifth goal with a superb first-time shot from the edge of the box in the 74th minute. Brazil will open their World Cup campaign against Serbia on Nov. 24 and then go on to face Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G.

Lionel Messi continued his rich vein of form when he scored two goals from the bench as Argentina extended their unbeaten streak to 35 matches over the course of three years by  New Jersey. Julian Alvarez started the scoring when he put Argentina ahead in the 13th minute, while Messi came off the bench in the 55th minute and increased his career tally to 90 goals in 164 international appearances with his two goals. The six-time Ballon D'or winner scored with a 23-yard left-footed shot in the 86th minute after a nice one-two with Giovani Lo Celso, then got another goal with a brilliant free kick three minutes later when he was fouled by Adrian Mariappa just outside the penalty area.

Alvarez slotted past Blake for his second goal in 11 international appearances. Heading into their 13th straight World Cup,  Argentina sought to add to championships won in 1978 with Mario Kempes and 1986 with Diego Maradona. Argentina now have one remaining friendly, against the United Arab Emirates on Nov. 16 in Abu Dhabi before the World Cup in Qatar. Argentina play their first match against Saudi Arabia and then play Mexico and Poland in Group C. Argentina now have 25 wins, including one win on penalty kicks, and 10 draws since their 2-0 loss to Brazil at the Copa America on July 2, 2019. Head coach Lionel Scaloni made eight changes to the starting lineup from Friday's win Honduras at Miami. The Reggae Boyz, who finished sixth  in the final round of the CONCACAF region, played in jerseys without names as Jamaica started a first-choice starting XI in their first match under new coach Heimir Hallgrímsson which included Premier League players Michail Antonio, Leon Bailey and Bobby Decordova-Reid.
