(Football news) After beating Manchester City last week, Antonio Conte’s side suffered a shock defeat to Burnley after a late Ben Mee strike. Burnley still remained in the relegation zone but moved up to 18th place on 20 points, two points behind Newcastle United and Everton but with a game in hand on the former. On the other hand Tottenham stayed in eighth place on 39 points, seven behind fourth placed Manchester United but with two games in hand.

Ben Mee rose above Cristian Romeroin and beat him in the air at the back post to head in a free kick from Josh Brownhill to earn the Clarets only their third win of the season and arguably their biggest win of the season. Tottenham had dominated the game up until the goal as Harry Kane had struck the bar with a header for Tottenham shortly after half time but Spurs who beat league leaders Manchester City on Saturday and were high on confidence failed to find a way past Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope. Sean Dyche's side had enjoyed a 3-0 win at Brighton on Saturday and the club look to have rediscovered some form and defensive stability as Sean Dyche hopes that these two victories finally kick start their season
 
The home side had a brilliant first half but were unable to create any clear cut chances against them and the Spurs defence looked relatively comfortable. Antonio Conte brought on Harry Winks at the break and Spurs made a much stronger start to the second half as Kane flashed a header from a free kick that hit the crossbar. Pope was on top of his game, pulling off fine reflex saves to keep out the visitors but Burnley were soon causing problems for them with their long balls. This time Hugo Lloris made a fine save to keep out a Jay Rodriguez’s header 

Dejan Kulusevski came close for Spurs with a drifting shot wide of the goal post after a counter-attack in the 70th minute but then Mee struck them with a final blow as he showed his aerial prowess at the other end with his well-taken header sending Turf Moor into ecstatic celebrations. Rodriguez should have added a second late on to make sure of the win but somehow poked over from four metres out and he surely had his heart in his mouth when Pope made a brilliant save from Steven Bergwijn in the final minutes.

Antoino Conte looked visibly upset and hinted of quitting the club just after 2 months into his new job. He said “We are doing everything to change the situation, but it's not enough. Four defeats out of five is not good enough. This doesn't happen to me. Maybe I'm not so good. Tottenham called me to change things but I'm too honest. I could just take my salary, but I'm too honest. We've lost four out of five games. This is unacceptable."

He added "Maybe there is something wrong; I want to take responsibility, if I have that, I'm open for every decision. I want to help Tottenham from the first day I arrive. Also to take my salary. It is not right at this moment. On Saturday we play another game [at Leeds], it's the moment to see the situation and make an assessment. I'm trying to do everything but the situation is not changing.In the last five games, we are playing like we are in relegation, this is the reality. I want to try to improve the situation and also to make an assessment with the club. Because if we continue in this way, maybe we have to pay great attention because in this league we can finish 10th, 12th, 13th — the same way that when I arrived here, the same position."
