(Football news) German international Leroy Sane scored one goal and forced an own goal by Inter Milan as Bayern Munich comfortably beat Inter Milan 2-0 away in their Champions League Group C opener on Wednesday night. Sane superbly controlled a pinpoint ball from Joshua Kimmich before Sane rounded the Inter keeper Andre Onana, who was making his debut for the club, to give Bayern a much deserved lead in the 25th minute.
Sane also deserved a lot of credit for their second goal after he single handedly dismantled the Inter defence with a lightning-quick one-two with Kingsley Coman in the 66th before his shot was turned into his own net by the Inter captain Danilo D'Ambrosio. Bayern, who bounced back following two consecutive draws in the Bundesliga as they look to host Barcelona next week, while Inter, who have now lost their last two matches following their loss to arch rivals AC Milan on Saturday as they take on Viktoria Plzen in the other group match.
The German champions came out all guns blazing as they would have taken an early lead were it not for Onana, who denied Thomas Muller twice as well as Kimmich in the first half. He was beaten by Sane's first touch and clinical finish as Bayern took the lead. Cameroon international Onana replaced Samir Handanovic as again came to the rescue in the 37th minute, punching away Alphonso Davies shot before Marcel Sabitzer's rebound whizzed just wide.
The hosts somewhat recovered after the break and both Edin Dzeko and D'Ambrosio had chances, but Bayern showed their dominance and the win never looked in doubt after they added another through D'Ambrosio's own goal. Inter's frustration was completed when Joaquin Correa capitalised on a Bayern mistake but his shot narrowly missed the target seven minutes from time as Inter couldn’t get a foothold in the match. With this result Bayern and Barcelona are on top of Group C
"Leroy had two super actions today. He did really well to control the great ball from Josh (Kimmich), that was not easy," Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said. "The second goal was equally great. He did it really well, the way he speeds up. We could have decided the game a bit earlier though. But overall it was a deserved win and it's important to win the opening match of the Champions League group stage.”
"We knew it was a difficult match, they are one of the three or four candidates for the title," Inter's D'Ambrosio said. "But we tried to put them in trouble by creating opportunities. Then if you give Bayern half a chance, they punish you.
