Atletico Madrid return to Manchester as they take on the Citizens

(Football news) After defeating Manchester United in the Round of 16, Atletico Madrid will take on Manchester City in the quarter finals. Diego Simeone's men have made quite a comeback this season as at one point it looked like they would be playing in the Europa League. The Rojiblancos finished 2nd in their UCL group on the very last matchday. Later they finally got the better of Cristiano Ronaldo by defeating Manchester United in the Round of 16.

Now they face the tough test of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. The match will definitely be City's attack versus Atletico's defence. Manchester City edged PSG to top their group before dismantling Sporting CP 5-0 in the Round of 16. Both teams are in great form as City are unbeaten in 7 games while Atletico are unbeaten in 8 games. The first leg is at the Etihad Stadium where City need to win because the match at the Wanda Metropolitano will be very difficult to get a result from.

Kyle Walker is still suspended for Manchester City while Ruben Diaz is not fit yet. John could be back in the team after being on the bench at the weekend. As for Atlético Madrid, Yannick Carrasco is suspended while Hector Herrera and Jose Gimenez are injured. Both managers will have a few difficult personnel choices to make. For Guardiola, it will be the choice of no. 9 as no one ever knows which player will be used as a striker. Joao Cancelo could play right back or left back which leaves the other side a little weaker as Walker is suspended.

Manchester City like to keep the ball while Atletico Madrid don't mind to play on the counter. Despite being defensive, Atletico Madrid always find ways to counter attack which will be the main threat for City. The absence of Ruben Diaz is a very big loss for the hosts and Guardiola will be hoping that John Stones and Aymeric Laporte can keep up with the pace of Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann. Luis Suarez scored two goals as a substitute on the weekend which could force Simeone to start the veteran.
