(Football news) A 250th goal by Harry Kane was enough for Tottenham Hotspur to secure a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 29 year old found the back of the net in the 64th minute from a header through an assist by Ivan Perisic and has now surpassed Sergio Aguero for the record number of goals scored at a Premier League club (185). Only Alan Shearer with 260 goals is ahead of Kane in the rankings.

Spurs had a poor first half as Wolves registered 12 shots compared to Tottenham’s 1 but the visitors lacked quality in the final third to find a breakthrough. In the second half, Kane hit the crossbar before finding the back of the net while Son also struck the post as Tottenham looked like a different side compared to the first 45 minutes. The result means that Spurs have now won seven in their last eight home games in the Premier League including each of their last five. 

Speaking after the match, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte said “Half-time was a moment to analyse with players to improve the situation. We struggled in the first half – we played against a fast team. We suffered together but Hugo Lloris didn't make a save. I tried to fix it in the second half with tactical aspects but we had energy to press high and create chances. We played with important intensity and good pressure. The second half was difficult for Wolves. To get seven points shows this team is improving in many aspects. We want to improve. It's not enough to fight for something important. There is great chemistry and that is important." 

Wolves manager Bruno Lage said “It's the same thing [lack of finishing]. It looks like the same beginning that we had in our first season. The feeling is the same. We played very well against this great team with a top manager with a big personality. We controlled the game in the first half and created chances but in the end we went without any points. The same thing I said last year that the goals will come." 

At the Vitality Stadium, Arsenal continued their impressive start in the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth and moved on top of the table with 9 points. The Gunners made it three wins in three games as captain Martin Odegaard scored twice and a brilliant goal by William Saliba secured the three points for the North London side. The Norwegian opened the scoring in the 5th minute and then doubled his tally in the 11th minute with Gabriel Jesus setting him up. However, the highlight of the match was Saliba’s strike in the second half as his curling effort went in the underside of the crossbar in the 54th minute.

Speaking after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said “We had some very strong periods but in the second half we conceded too many chances for Bournemouth to put the ball in our box. I'm proud because it's not easy to come here and win 3-0 but there are still things to improve. It's just three games, it doesn't mean anything. What it means is the team is playing really well, we won three games, we're scoring goals, we're keeping clean sheets, the team is playing and performing well, it's competing really well. 

“But it's about Monday [at training] and getting better at other things that we have to do better and focus on Fulham. Jesus didn't score today but he was involved in the goals and his contribution to the team was outstanding. He's still 25 years old and can still improve his level a lot. He's got a huge desire to be the best he can be and that's what he needs to do."

Bournemouth manager Scott Parker said “The first half was really unacceptable from us in many ways. We needed to have a bit of humility about us in terms of understanding the dynamics of the game and what we were up against. In terms of our general body language and the general dynamics of what we needed to bring, I thought we were nowhere near it. There's no disgrace in losing to Arsenal in that sense but what is not acceptable is the first half and how we went about it. 

“Second half, there was a reaction but to come out like we did in the first half is not enough and, really, we need to understand that and the players will understand that. I didn't expect to see in the first half what I saw. I expected them to show a certain ingredient that we didn't show. It was far too easy in terms of recovery runs, getting back into shape, understanding the quality of what we're playing against and how the game might look. There's some big learning to do regarding this game."
