(Football news) In an exclusive interview with "El Chiringuito” sports outlet, Florentino Perez opens up about the failed transfer of Kylian Mbappe. The young French forward recently snubbed the Champions League winners for PSG as he signed a bumper three deal with the capital side. A lot of talks were surrounding Mbappe’s future and for the most part of it, it looked like he was heading to the 14 time UCL winners but a change of heart in a span of 15 days made him settle in Paris. Perez also talks about the recent contract extension they have signed with Vinicus Junior and he highlighted the continuing intention to form the Super League.
On Kylian Mbappé's failed signing the Real Madrid president in an interview with "El Chiringuito" said, "His dream was to play at Real Madrid, we wanted to do it last August and they didn't let him leave, he kept saying he wanted to play at Madrid and like 15 days before he changed the situation,"
"This is not the Mbappé I wanted to bring, he is another one, who must have changed his dream. He changes, he is offered other things, he is pressured and he is already another footballer. There is no one at Real Madrid above the club. He is a great player, he can win more than others, but it is a collective sport and we have values and principles that we cannot change", he added.
"The Mbappé who was going to come here is not this one. If it is, I prefer him to stay at PSG. I want the one with the dream. Impossible in three years? In three years' time we'll all be bald? This Mbappé is not my Mbappé, who refuses to do a publicity stunt with his national team… I don't want that. It could have been a slip of the tongue, but I think he was mistaken. "Macron called Mbappé, it makes no sense. PSG offered him to be the leader of the project; it changed everything. I didn't see the same Kylian Mbappé that we wanted. Here, no one is bigger than Real Madrid. It won't change".
In addition, Florentino Pérez touched on several controversial issues, one of them being the formation of the Super League and he said "Of course it is still alive, right now there is a question in the Court of Luxembourg, there will be a hearing shortly and it will rule on the issues we have raised. We believe that we have the right, within the European Community, to organize competitions among ourselves, with UEFA. We understand that UEFA is a monopoly and in this Europe of 27, one pillar is that of competition".
Florentino Pérez said: "We've no problem with Vinicius' contract extension. We're on it, no issues. He received some proposals but he always said: He only wants to stay at Real Madrid. I'm 100% sure that Vinicius will be Ballon d'Or one day".
Florentino Perez also went on to touch upon the fact why they didn’t go after Erling Haaland as he believes that Karim Benzema will be the man leading the club in the future. He went on to add that they will be active this transfer market and we can expect a few more incomings at the Santiago Bernabeu. With Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger already signed and delivered, we can expect at least two or more signings for Real Mardid. They are in the market for a right winger and a right back as Serge Gnabry and Recce James are names linked to them.
Perez went on to refer to Karim Benzema as the reason the team did not sign Erling Haaland. "We have the best 9 in the world and we weren't going to bring in Haaland to have him on the bench, right? Clause in two years? I don't know. We have no interest now other than to build the new team with the youngsters we have and some reinforcement."
Perez also spoke about the violence at the UCL finals, "That spectacle can never happen in life, we ask UEFA what criteria are taken into account for the change of venue and the French government why they have unprotected us all. The fans suffered robberies and violence. Why was this site chosen if everybody knew that either you have big measures or there are problems? Some people had to spend the night in the hospital. Let them tell us why they chose Paris. They say that since we played a game against PSG and lost 1-0 and between that game and the return leg is when the change of venue happens, there are people who think that those who win there said they were going to win at the Bernabeu and see if they made it to the final."
Perez on more incomings said that "There will be no more signings, as of now. But then let's see what is gonna happen, summer is very long. "Lewandowski to Barça? I'd be happy for them, it would be a great signing for sure".
