(Cricket News) After his team defeated India in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad, Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh faced a barrage of criticism in India. Now, a FIR has been filed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, on the grounds that Marsh’s actions offended Indian sentiment.
After Australia’s cricket team defeated India by six wickets on November 19, they won the cup for the sixth time. However, following the match, a picture of Marsh with his feet up on the coveted trophy went viral, drawing criticism from fans and the media for demeaning cricket’s most prestigious award. Australian captain Pat Cummins first shared the photo on Instagram, and it quickly gained popularity on social media. Team India pacer Mohammed Shami also attacked Marsh, claiming he was offended to see Marsh’s feet on the World Cup.
In the meantime, on November 24, an RTI activist from Aligarh, in Uttar Pradesh, submitted a formal complaint against Mitchell Marsh. The activist also wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that the player be prohibited from playing in India.
