(Football news) AC Milan are in talks about a new contract renewal with Fikayo Tomori. The former Chelsea defender signed for AC Milan last summer after a successful six month loan with them previously. Tomori this season was instrumental in helping Milan win their first Scudetto since 2011. Tomori and his crew have already agreed a contract extension with Milan. The deal will see a hike in his salary by €3m net a season plus add-ons. His current deal expires in 2025 but now this will be extended by two years until 2027.
After arriving on loan from Chelsea in January 2021 as he also had an option to buy in his loan deal, he has been worth every penny of the €28m transfer fee paid to buy him last summer. Simon Kjaer’s serious injury this year meant that Tomori became the leader of the defence as he showed extreme consistency in his game having played 40 games in all competitions and which was subsequently the third-most minutes of any player in the squad, becoming virtually undroppable from the playing XI. Pablo Maldini and Stefan Pioli have already held dialogues with the Englishman which began a few weeks ago. While he currently has a contract expiring in 2025, there is already a basis of understanding with his agent to extend his current contract.
There is optimism around the club that both of their young centre backs Tomori and Kalulu will become Milan’s cornerstone players in the future. Although Milan are still looking to sign a new centre-back this summer with Gleison Bremer and Sven Botman on top of their wish list, they are also looking to reward the current pairing of Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu. Both this season were exceptional especially in the final 11 games of the season during which the team conceded just 2 goals in 11 games and they had 9 clean sheets during that stretch. Kalulu will also renew his contract until 2027 as his deal currently expires in 2025, a pay rise from the current figure of around €600k to €1.5m net per year is expected. A meeting at the end of the season with his agents revealed the mutual desire to continue together, and soon things should be made official.
