(Football News) Ferland Mendy was supposed to be back after the international break but he has now suffered a relapse and is set to be out for over a month. The news is a bad one for Real Madrid as Mendy is crucial to their plans. Ferland Mendy’s Real Madrid career got off to a flying start as he benched club legend Marcelo to become the first choice left back.

However for the past 2 seasons he has become more and more injury prone. Real Madrid have David Alaba and Nacho who can play left back but both prefer to play at centre back. A lot of times Eduardo Camavinga has had to step in at left back because of the lack of options.

Real Madrid may be looking to sell Ferland Mendy for the right price in the summer. Former Castilla player Fran Garcia who is currently playing at Rayo Vallecano is set to return in the summer. Mendy’s departure will generate funds and potentially allow Real Madrid to sign another left back. According to reports Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United are all interested in the Frenchman. His current contract ends at the end of next season so he will not cost too much money. If Ferland Mendy overcomes his fitness issues then he is a quality player and still only 27 years of age.

Alphonso Davies is one player who is often linked with a move to Real Madrid. As of now Real Madrid need Ferland Mendy to get fit as soon as possible to help them towards the back end of the season. If he does get fit and plays well for a number of games then things could change very quickly but another relapse before the end of the season could be the end of Mendy’s Real Madrid career. Real Madrid will definitely think hard about the decision because a similar situation happened with Arjen Robben who was sold for being injury prone. The Dutchman went on to become one of the best players in the world at Bayern Munich.
